Guidance for Householders

Giving your waste

Do any of these businesses take away your waste?

• Builders

• Carpenters & Joiners

• Electricians

• Kitchen, Window & Carpet
   Fitters

• Plumbers

• Painters & Decorators

• Roofers

• Gardeners & Tree Fellers

• House Clearers

• Waste Oil Collectors

• Skip Hire

• Scrap metal Dealers

One of the main ways that the public can help in the fight against fly-tipping is to ask where your waste is going. If your waste is found dumped then you could be fined.

If you give your waste to someone else, you must use a waste carrier whose business is registered with Environment Agency Wales. Ask the carrier to show you proof that they are registered to carry waste. If you have any doubts, call the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506. You can find the registered carriers in your area by visiting the Environment Agency website.

How to dispose of waste

Local authorities run ‘Civic Amenity’ sites, where you can take waste to be recycled or disposed of.  To find out what you can take where, visit Waste Awareness Wales and use the recycle and reuse locator.

In addition, most local authorities will collect large, bulky items from your home for a small fee. Contact your local authority and ask for information.
